I had to take a break from trying to solve my printing problems in order
to prepare for a class.
I am very grateful for the responses I received. One of them asked for a
copy of my printcap:
LaserWriter_310 is the default. It is the only one that gives me any
sort of output.
# Hand edited changes can be put in /etc/printcap.local, and will be
included.

Since my last post, I have discovered that xfig gives me perfect output
- at least for the two drawings I made. I suppose it is still possible
that it won't be perfect if I use some other options. This is only from
within the application however. If I try to print from the command line,
the output is the postscript text (I'm guessing).
I also discovered I can print html files from Netscape. However, the
page formatting isn't correct. Abiword, Kword, Mozilla, Emacs,
ghostview, and xpdf don't print.
So far I have gotten the Redhat postscript test pages and xfig documents
to print perfectly. For everything else, I get nothing (status light
blinks for a while then gives up) or I get output that isn't quite
right. My guess is that it is an issue with filtering output from the
application to something my printer can understand. I don't have any
idea what to do about it, though.
The setup of my printer (that gives output) is a raw queue set up with
the print tool, and gpr using my printer's ppd from Adobe. The
linuxprinting ppd's for the Apple Laserwriter NT and Laserwriter Select
360 do not work.
I am running Yellow Dog Linux 2.2 on a PowerBase.
Thank you again for any help.
