IIRC, RedHat has a patched version for other issues in it for 8 and 9.  
My advice (not to you, of course, but to others.. i think you know 
python pretty well :) would be to grab the Redhat src.rpm for it from 
any redhat mirror and rpmbuild --rebuild it.

I guess RedHat is pretty much upstream, YDL being midstream :)
