In the case where I apt-get'ed my way to 3.0, I used apt to install 3.0's
kernel (apt-get install kernel#2.4.20-8d), then I copied
/boot/vmlinux-2.4.20-8d to a HFS partition (a zip drive) ...booted into OS
9, and moved vmlinux-2.4.20-8d to my "Linux Kernels" folder. Selected the
new Kernel in BootX prefs and... 'Everything Worked'
D.

So here's a question for you - what different parameters does the new
kernel need?
