Firewire drives are mapped to the SCSI device files.

I believe this is what you see if you use HFS to access an HFS+
filesystem (also from MacOS prior to 8.1), although I thought the name
of the file was Where_have_all_my_files_gone?  Take a look at the
contents of that file.
