Graphical server monitors

Using YDL 2.2.

I've gotten a bit addicted to watching the graphical server monitors I've
installed in to the desktop tool bar; memory usage, net traffic, memory & swap
availability etc.  But I don't like the idea of having the full desktop
environment loaded all the time.  Are there other alternatives?  I'm imagining
some visual performance monitors that show up in the graphical logon window or
something.  Does such a thing exist?
