Cpufreq issue - PB G4 only running at 667mhz

Hello all,
I just installed YDL 3.0 last week on my Tibook. This model is the 15"
1GHz with everything max'd out as far as upgrades go. The machine model,
per the System Profile on the Mac side of things says it's a
Powerbook3,5. The cpu type is PPC G4 (3.2), 1GHz. 1GB RAM, Boot ROM v.
4.53f2.
I followed every link in the searchable lists, that I could find, trying
to figure out how to get the speed above anything 667MHz. Every time I
try to set either 800 or 1000MHz into /proc/cpufreq the machine
completely shuts off and then I have to reboot via linux rescue from the
YDL cd's.
On the Mac side, this machine runs at 1GHz with no issues. I found a doc
over at the Gentoo PPC FAQ (
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#doc_chap2 ) which
mentions a few things.
First off it talks about making sure that the processor, on the OS X
side, is set to maximum performance. Did that.
Then, it mentions that the kernel - albiet it's the Gentoo version -
need to have 'CPU Frequency scaling disabled'.
On my x86 machines, I do this all the time in the kernel, but I don't
want to yet go digging into this on my Tibook yet. Does anyone know of
any possible reason why I can't get this particular machine up above
667MHz? I mean, it's not slow, but I'd really like to run it at full
speed and have no problem on the OS X side.
Other than that, I don't really have any other problems. Everything runs
real smooth. I'm able to use my Airport & base station perfectly and
pmud suspend works great. Although, when I was using yum to update to
the latest versions, it seemed to not include pmud as a service. So had
to re-chkconfig it and start it up. After that, it was fine, but just
thought I'd mention that.
Anyway, any suggestions on the cpu speed would be greatly appreciated.
Like I said, I've read every mail list msg already to no avail. Maybe
it's something kernel specific?
TIA,
- jason
