GCC support for PPC64?

Quick question: how is the GCC support for PPC64.  I have ordered a
dual G5, I plan to go with Gentoo on it so that I can complie
everything from sources, but I wonder if I will thus obtain native,
64-bit code.  There is a vague mention of PPC64 switches in the GCC
3.3.1 manual but that's about all the information I could find on the
matter.

Any more precise information is appreciated.
