It appears that your tape drive is on the same bus as the Linux system 
but the Mac Os lives on the MESH (built in) bus.  There could be 
competition for the bus when dumping from Linux that is not apparent 
when Mac OS is running.  Since both buses are narrow/slow you could try 
switching the tape drive to the MESH bus and trying to see if that 
makes your dumps go faster in Linux.
