problem setting up cpu

I tried what your site said for my ibook with
yellowdog and got the following
[root@localhost thomas]# cat /proc/sys/cpu/0/speed-max
> /proc/sys/cpu/0/speed
bash: /proc/sys/cpu/0/speed: No such file or directory
[root@localhost thomas]#

any ideas on what I can do, I do not want to be
running slower than what linux is capable of.  Thanks.
