Yes, you have a version of yum that is very-very-very old. You need a 
newer one, but you will also need a newer RPM for this.

http://ayo.freshrpms.net/yellowdog/3.0/ppc/updates/RPMS/

Get and install rpm-4.1.1 from there. There will be dependencies, but 
they should be all available from that dir.

http://ayo.freshrpms.net/yellowdog/3.0/ppc/freshrpms/RPMS/

Get yum-2.0.5 from there. After that you should be able to use the 
config file you have.
