Subject: passwords

Dear members of the list,
I am writing this message in order to get some help. I recently bought
an Apple
computer with YDL preinstalled, I was provided my username and user
password by
the company but not the root password. Thus, I don't have root
privileges in my
own personal computer.
Does anybody know of a way to get/change the root password?
Should I bother the company?
Sorry for the question: I am really a newbie, as new as 2 or 3 days.
Thanks to all.
MS
