Color Depth with Studio Display

I have a clean install of YDL 4.0 on a G4 Cube with ATi Rage 128. I have
a 17" Studio Display LCD. I'd like to get more than 8 bit color working.
KDE is unusable with the current configuration, because when I log in to
either desktop environment the colors are way messed up. If I go to
screen saver in GNOME, I get proper colors when the desktop returns at
least.
I would appreciate someone pointing me to an Xconfig that will work with
16 or 24 bit color. I don't even care about the 24. 16 would be
fine--it's just the 8 which is too difficult to work with.
Here's the XF86Config, which I had to tweak to get X to start at all.
Failed log of failed start with an unaltered config is below that.
