YDL on an eMAC Firewire Drive

Hi,

I'm interested in running Yellowdog Linux on my eMac but I don't want 
to wipeout or repartition my internal hard-drive.  Unfortunately, the 
installation guide states that you can't install to a USB or Firewire 
drive.  Does anyone know of an "unofficial" way to get YDL to install 
on a Firewire drive?  It seems like a ridiculous limitation to me since 
I bet most people don't want to mess with their Mac OS installation.
