Installation broken passwords Newbe

You can get back into your 3.0.1 install in "single user mode" & then 
access the passwd program & change passwords for all accounts incl root. 
Be careful--in single user mode you are working with power of root.

Don't know how you have things set up, but at an initial boot prompt you 
can type:
linux  single <enter>
to get into the single user shell. Alternatively, you can boot from your 
install CD but at the boot prompt type "linux  single" as above.
