Printer Installation

I struggled with this somewhat and here is basically what I found worked
best. I have a small network, with my HP InkJet shared on a DELL computer
running Windows XP Professional. I have the printer shared so that I can
access it from the DELL, a Toshiba Laptop (also running Windows XP and
connecting by wireless), and an iMac running YDL 3.01.

First I only have a small network, so I connected the printer to my iMac and
turned it on and booted YDL. YDL recognized a new printer (the printer was
not there during installation) and did some configuration. Then I got
printing working with the printer connected on a USB port. This helped me
get used to CUPs, etc. Then I connected the printer back up to the DELL.
When I started YDL it again noticed the printer was now not connected, but I
told it to keep the configuration any ways.

Then I got Samba configured and made sure I had this working correctly. I
made sure that I had the LMHosts files and Samba configuration tuned for my
little network (right workgroup, etc.) working.

Once this was done, I just had to change the CUPS from USB to network
connection.

This is a rough outline, but it does work.
