HOWTO build a 2.6 kernel for PPC

Thanks for the link, but that's not what i was looking for :)

I've got sound working (sorta): after modprobe dmasound_pmac sound
works. After inserting some of the oss compatibility modules i can even
playback stuff in xmms (with oss output plugin). I can't change the
volume however. I've rebuilt xmms with alsa support, but it won't
playback anything complaining that it can't open the mixer:

** WARNING **: alsa_setup_mixer(): Attaching to mixer hw:0 failed: No
such device

When i do cat /proc/asound/devices i only see a timer:

[jeroen@orcrist gdl]$ cat /proc/asound/devices
 33:       : timer

My guess is that the mixer should be listed here as well. No idea though
why it isn't...
