Adding bootsplash to YDL?

I am relatively new to Linux and Yellow Dog, but I noticed that some 
distros like Mandrake use bootsplash screens on startup.  How would I 
go about adding bootsplash functionality to YDL?  I've figured out how 
to change the KDE splash screen when it's loading, but not the 
bootsplash screen.

I'm not sure if it matters or not, but I've upgraded my kernel to 
2.4.22-2g.
