Friends:

[This is a report and not an endorsement; I do not have any connection
with SubRosaSoft and I have never used any of their products.]

Remember how we always say on this List that you can't resize a
Macintosh partition? Remember how we always tell folks that they must
erase and repartition their hard drives in order to install Yellow Dog
Linux (unless they had used the FWB drivers)? Well, we may have been wrong.

SubRosaSoft has released a new program, VolumeWorks (US$50) that
purports to do the impossible:

"VolumeWorks enables you to resize and manage partitions (volumes) on
your hard drives. Unlike traditional methods VolumeWorks allows you to
shrink or expand partitions without erasing them. It is able to hide
partitions from most users, and can be used to delete or create
partitions. The new version adds the ability to shift a partition on the
hard drive, as well as reconstructing partition maps. Written
specifically for Mac OS X - it supports most native drive formats (SCSI,
ATA, USB, Firewire, etc.)."

Is it worth US$50 to avoid backing up one's data and reinitializing a
disk? That is up to you.

Best wishes,
Clint
