Bootproblems compiled Kernel

Hi!
After compiling the Kernel 2.6.5 from ppckernel.org my system (3.01)
tells me to set the correct root=boot option, that means it won't boot
with the new kernel.
I have /boot on an ext2 partition (for example hda6) and the rest on 
hda8 which is ok for my old kernelworking with bootx.The Systemmap,
Kernel etc. are all copied to /boot. 
After trying around a lot, I have no idea what to do about it.
Any hints?
