Hi

Has anyone out there succesfully added a sonnet crescendo
L2/G3 upgrade card (500 MHz) to a 6500 powermac,
dual booting OS 9 and YDL linux?

I have OS 9 and YDL 3.01 dual booting on this machine.
It's a 6500/275, 128 MB memory.

I just added a new Sonnet upgrade card (500 MHz).

It works splendidly under OS 9 (of course).

If I boot to Linux from the BootX extension (before
the Sonnet extension is loaded by Mac OS 9) then (of course)
linux works fine but the G3 is not being used. No speed gain.

If I boot to Linux from the BootX application (after the
Sonnet extension is loaded by OS 9 and therefore after
the G3 card is started up) start-up very quickly
comes to a dead halt, I suspect while BootX is still
at work. Perhaps just as BootX hands over to Linux?
Below I copy the 22 lines of start-up messages.

I have read that one can get the BootX extension to start
before Sonnet by a resedit trick (and I guess I should try
this) but my prior suspicion is that I'll get be reaching
for the reset button under both scenarios, instead of only
the second one.

Any help/tips would be highly appreciated (even the bad
news that this can't be done...)

Yours
Richard
