Min. version of Linux required for Microsoft compatible DNS?

I've run both bind 8 and bind 9 on my home LAN which uses Linux and MS
clients, and they both work perfectly. Total anti-climax.

The one piece of advice I'd give in setting up bind: read the logs - they
are your friend.
