Hi,
Current kernel of YDL4.0 for G5 is 32 bit?
The kernel (kernel-2.6.8-ppc-g5-smp) config says:
# Processor
CONFIG_POWER4=y
CONFIG_ALTIVEC=y
CONFIG_PM=y
CONFIG_PPC64BRIDGE=y
CONFIG_PPC_STD_MMU=y
#
# Platform options
#
CONFIG_PPC_MULTIPLATFORM=y
CONFIG_PPC_CHRP=y
CONFIG_PPC_PMAC=y
CONFIG_PPC_PMAC64=y
CONFIG_PPC_PMAC64=y means 64 bits ?
When I test the 2.5 GHz dual G5 machine (RAM 2 GB) for a perl
script or an image analysis program written by me in C compiled
on YDL 4.0, the performance is worth than a dual Xeon (2.8 GHz,
RAM 2 GB) machine (RedHat 9.0). When 6000 tiff images were treated,
the dual G5 machine took 42 min, on the other hand, the dual
Xeon machine completed the job in 36 min. Another dual G5
(2 GHz, RAM 2.5 GB) took 52 min for the same job.
How do you think?
Cheers,
Kaz
