XFree86 muckup - "lost" font called 'fixed'

Well, something's gone wrong with my XFree86 install!

I rebooted and my XFree86 no longer comes up but errors out. It says
"could not open default font 'fixed'".

There are a few things I have done that I figure could have triggered
this problem (I suspect #3):
1. I opened up the "font manager" that was included with the version
of Open Office that came with YDL 3.0.1. I didn't do anything with it.

2. I installed the newest version of OpenOffice available to YDL 3.

3. I tried to install GIMP 2.0 without success. I never got past step
one which was make and make install the appropriate glib version!

& Now that I notice it, I also run Webalizer 2.0.1 as a cron job and
it hasn't been updated today. When I run it from the CLUI (now) as
root it errors with "Warning: Truncating oversized referrer field" and
doesn't update the files normally found in my.url.tld/usage

Do I try to yum remove glib and then yum install glib? Or do I need to
re-install OpenOffice, default version with YDL 3.0.1?

Thanks for your help.

Eric.
