This is *so* unlikely. It is by far more lilely to be a matter of
kernel configuration. So check first that you have CONFIG_THERM_PM72
(Device Drivers -> Macintosh device drivers -> Support for thermal
management on PowerMac G5) set in your kernel (if it is not, then set
it, recompile your kernel, and see whether the problem disappears). I
have heard reports that some kernels will not control the fans even
with CONFIG_THERM_PM72 set, but I am not sure which versions (it
worked for every kernel I worked with, but then I started directly
with a 64-bit kernel on my G5). Also see
