Hi all,

I tried to upgrade my Powermac G4 "Silver" from 2.4.25-ben1 to 2.6.8.1 =20
from kernel.org, but when booting it, it hangs when accessing the hard =20
disk drive. Messages are (written down by hand, so they may be =20
incomplete):

ide0 Apple Keylargo ATA 4
hda IBM-IC35L040AVVA07-0 # the drive the box came with
set UDMA timing for mode 4, reg 0x0c50038c
Enabling Ultra DMA 4

and then several

hda: lost interrupt
hda:<3> ide-pmac lost interrupt, dma status 8080

Tweaking the code to force the ide controller down to udma 3 as the only =20
replay I got to my previous post suggested didn't help.

The puzzling thing is that with 2.4.25-ben1, UDMA 4 actually seems to =20
work; at least the box works flawlessly with it as well as with OS X =20
(excerpt from 2.4.25 dmesg):

Found a Keylargo mac-io controller, rev: 3, mapped at 0xfde00000
Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00beta4-2.4
ide0: Found Apple KeyLargo ATA-4 controller, bus ID 2
Probing IDE interface ide0...
hda: IBM-IC35L040AVVA07-0, ATA DISK drive
hda: Enabling Ultra DMA 4

Questions:

Does anyone have 2.6.8.1 running on a G4/800 "Silver"?
Or should I try a different version? Which one?
Is it at all possible to use stock (kernel.org) kernels with a Mac?
Or should I load a "special" one (the links to Ben's kernels at ppckernel.=20
org look somewhat out of date)? Where?

HELP!

Thanks in advance,

Cheers, Albrecht.
