> Im looking for a more "snappy" feel. I want my system to remain as fast and responsive as it was upon first boot because I noticed its slowing down after a few week. Just like MacOS used to do.. you know what i mean?

Crud build up. HDD fragementation, over flowing app caches, etc. All
OS's suffer it, Windows and MacOS Classic the worst.

Recompiling all your apps will cause much, must worse HDD
fragmentation (believe me, development is the worst thing you can do
to a HDD without using physical force, followed by heavy webserving)

Clean out your browser cache, etc, run e2fsck, and so on. Some basic
system maintainance.

You could also take the Windows route and reinstall....
