hopping wifi networks

So, I was very excited to get YDL 4 and a NetGear WG511 wifi card from 
Christmas.  I loaded it onto my laptop on Christmas Day, but have yet 
to get it fully up and running.  My main problem right now is that it 
won't stick to the designated network and instead hops around to other 
local networks every few seconds.

I tried using both the Network Control Panel and KWifiManager to 
specify the SSID, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?
