Thanks for sharing all this information!
It seems that for me, on a stock YDL4 system, the only required change was
the one in uio.h. Attached is a unified diff that does the exact same
change as the patch you posted.
Right now, I'm finishing some last lirc fixes (for Fedora Core 3's udev,
things worked already fine on YDL4) and should be uploading a new mplayer
rpm for YDL4 anytime now (modulo that my build machine is a 400MHz G4 ;-)).
