Evolution 1.4.6

I reported on this problem back in December. It is a common problem with
evolution-1.4.x. Some of the index/control files for evolution get
broken for whatever reason.

The only workaround I discovered that actually works is:
* shut down evolution
* delete all files in ~/evolution/local/Inbox
  [not just the indexes]
* restart evolution
* empty the trash.

The next time a message lands in the Inbox you are back to square one

I eventually got out of this loop by using a sledgehammer approach:

* remove and reinstall the mail application binaries just because...
* stop the app if it is running
* hide all evolution related items in your home directory
	- mkdir HIDEME
	- mv ./evolution HIDEME/
	- mv .gconf/apps/evolution HIDEME/evolution.gconf
* start the app
	- a new evolution folder will be created
	- a new .gconf/apps/evolution folder will be created
* restore your old mail folders by manually importing the old mbox
files, one at a time.

These mbox files are found under

	~/evolution/local/<folder-name>/mbox

I did not seen a recurrence of this problem once I reinstalled
everything.

These days I am running GNOME-2.10.1.1, which contains evolution-2.2.2.
The cannot-empty-the-trash problem has not [yet] surfaced.
