Dual G5 XServe + Fibre Channel panics

I am having a problem with kernel panics after installed a LSI fibre
channel card.
I have a dual G5 XServe with one of the standard 250gb SATA drives in
/dev/sda

Everything works fine, until I try to install an LSI 7202P fibre channel
adapter card. There is nothing connected to the fibre channel
adapter, and a video card in the other pci slot.

The boot sequence starts, and then dies with the following error: "Oops:
Kernel access of bad area, sig: 11 [#1]"

I get this error with both smp/up kernels, and have verified the MPT
fusion driver is compiled into the YDL G5 kernel. Is this a problem with
the driver/card/kernel? Has anyone had anything similar occur? I noted one
person who had an NFS problem, but that didn't seem to be the same thing.

Below is the disk controller output from the serial port on the crash.
