Same thing happens with 2.6.11:

   LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
arch/ppc/platforms/built-in.o(.text+0x1288): In function 
`flush_disable_caches':
: undefined reference to `__flush_disable_L1'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1
