Hi Ken:
In the area of "other things", keep in mind that Apple is leaving the
PowerPC. This means several things first it is most likely that the
first machines with Intel in them will actually be slower than the PPCs
running now because of all the code which has to be reinterpreted for
Intel based chips. So if you stick with an upper tier PowerPC Mac, you
should be fine running applications in whatever version of OS X.

>From my view OS X is a bit slow and there have been professional level
tests which reveal how slow OS X actually is, which means that when the
switch happens OS X will be even SLOWER. Sticking with YDL on a PPC
would be a really smart investment, and your workload could be done even
faster as you won't be using a bloated OS which is very attractive, very
friendly and perhaps deserves a place in a multimedia center as opposed
to a traditional computational environment. Your choice will have to be
with consideration of what you do with the technology you have and what
function is more important in your job.

Best wishes....
