I haven't read the full interview yet, just the page you pointed to.

I read this as Microsoft say that Microsoft are trying to leverage
home-brewers to create games that Microsoft's infrastructure can
distribute.  Microsoft is also saying that Sony is trying to leverage
the open source community to create software that the open source
community can distribute.  Microsoft says the two things are
different.  These things are probably true.  Some how or another this
got translated to Sony is not competitive.  This last step doesn't make
any sense if they are targeting different markets (game vs general
software), there is no competition going on anyway.  So the rest is
just FUD.

I'll read the full interview now.
