What seems to be the problem??? I use xsane with an Epson 2450
Perfection [firewire] all the time on an older G4 PowerMac.

There is/was a udev issue that forces me to change permissions or
ownership on some devices.  Otherwise,  I see "no devices available" [or
something like that...].
