Since fdisk likes it and pdisk doesn't, it might be that it has a
PC style disk partition table rather than a Mac style disk partition
table. Assuming that this is basically a scratch disk with no
important data on it, you might be able to get around this by
using dd to copy /dev/zero to the first part of the disk and then
run pdisk. Alternatively you could use MacOS X (perhaps on another
Mac) to reformat the drive.
