dhcp /etc/hosts problems

I think I'm in the right place because I'm sure enough a newbie.

I've got a cable connection with cox.net and used netcnfg to select
dhcp. When Gnome starts it gives a message saying the ip address didn't
get into /etc/hosts and that I can enter it manually, but since the
address is constantly changing this is not the answer. When I start
Gnome I'm connected to cox, but having an unknown host can't be good.
Does anyone know how to get the ip addresses into /ect/hosts automatically?

Thanks in advance
