Kernel panic VFS: unable to mount root fs on 08:01

I am trying to install YDL 2.3 on my 7500/48MB.2x1Gb. When starting XBoot, I
get this Kernel panic message.
Also, when I move the mouse, I get the message "ADB HID on ID3 not yet
registered". This message appears constantly when the mouse is moving. The
mouse is obviously not correctly initialised.

Being a linuxnewbie, I feel like a Dutchman in the middle of China... Can
anybody give me a hint what to do? Thanks in advance!
