RADEON 7000 & windtunnel....AGAIN!!!...

Hi All,

After installing YLD, bumping up to the latest benh kernel, yaboot 1.3.8,
messing with OF & OFPATH I finally have a working setup.... except for my
video.
I too downgraded to a 7000 in my windtunnel and have a few questions.

1) Everybody is talking about PCI slot #1. Well the AGP slot is #1 so does
that mean the first available PCI slot is used (i.e. #2-next to the now
empty AGP slot) or the "top slot" (#5) that some users have reported luck
with?

2) When as root I run xconfigurator, the PCI card is never seen (Unable to
determine your video hardware. You must manually select a video driver).
Even after choosing FAIL SAFE I still get a blank screen when I startx.
The same step performed off of the text based YDL CD ISO install, X11 setup
always sees a video card (a long cryptic statement identifying the PCI
card)- huh? I have not had luck with xconfigurator using slot #2 or #5.

Even After I run xcinfigurator, my config file never looks like it has been
touched or updated when I go back and look...
A hint might be the prompt after exiting xconcogurator that says "mv: cannot
stat '/etc/X11/XF86Config':No such file or directory Wrote
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4"

Upon startup I see the card but it is followed by a statement saying
something about no frame buffer- do I need to manually alter framebuffer
values in the .conf file? Or is this an fbset thing?

Does one need to add kernel arguments when logging in text based (as
compared to GUI) in order for something to be "seen" or configured after
bootup?

I am about ready to kick the chair out from under me.....

Any commands, kernel arguments, .conf files to alter, anything to comment in
or out, ANYTHING would be of great help as past stories of success do not
seem to apply to me- and google is really tired of my IP... : )

Thanks In Advance,

Tom
