Internet connection but host not found (McLeod, Peter (Yuetsu))

I had the same problem. Using the network configuration utility (in 
Gnome, programs, system, network configuration) find the eth0 (ethernet 
card) and delete it. Then I used kppp (in Gnome, kde menus, internet, 
kppp) to setup my account. I was having this problem on both my G4 and 
powerbook and this fixed it on both machines. There is probably a more 
elegant solution (changing the default route?) but this will do it 
(pretty sure). Good luck.
