Hi, I've got a 6500 with a 603ev 250Mhz processor, 32MB RAM & a 3.8GB =
Internal ATA Hard Disk.
I'm running Mac OS 7.6.1 & I need help installing Yellow Dog!=20
I've downloaded the YDL 2.3 Dayton ISO & burnt it sucessfully (I think). =
Bootx installs okay, when it reboots & I try & boot into linux it =
crashes, so I boot into mac, open the control panels & run bootx from =
there (this seems to work). I've selected the ramdisk-text-image.gz, =
force video settings, & no video driver. I'm using the default vmlinux =
kernel as the earlier ones give me nothing but snow on my monitor (it's =
a greyscale portrait display A4 size).
I originally used Drive Setup 1.7.3 to format my 3.8GB ATA drive like =
this Untitled - 3.1GB Unallocated Space, Untitled 2 - 700MB hfs Mac OS =
7.6.1.=20
Now starting the YDL 2.3 Dayton Install -=20
I select custom install, then I bypass the mouse, keyboard & install =
media steps & go straight to drive partitioning (otherwise the installer =
crashes during formatting), my ATA drive ends up partitioned like this - =
When typing in the amounts, I type in the numbers, I don't just hit max, =
just to make sure.
/dev/hda2 Macintosh none 27KB
/dev/hda3 Macintosh none 37KB
/dev/hda4 Patch Partition none 256KB
/dev/hda5 Untitled none 10MB =
(the bootloader doesn't seem to be formatting)
/dev/hda7 Swap linux-swap 256MB
/dev/hda8 Untitled ext2 2840MB
/dev/hda6 Untitled 2 hfs 709MB
Unused Free none 5KB
Now, I go back & do the steps I missed, & move onto mount points & it =
looks like this -=20
/dev/hda7 Swap linux-swap 256MB
/dev/hda8 Untitled ext2 2840MB
/dev/hda6 Untitled 2 hfs 709MB
So I put a / in the ext2 partition. =
(shouldn't the bootloader be in this list?)
Installing Packages, I choose Base Install (well, I've tried them all) & =
I don't select individual packages & thats about as far as I get before =
the installer crashes. It's taken me about 5 hours a day for the last =
fortnight to get this far so I'm not giving up now.
Can Anyone Help!
