I tried to get it with apt-get, but it says that I already have the most
recent version.

Another strange thing is when I am logging in as a regular user (not
root), I can't start GNOME.  X starts to load, then it just sits there. 
Works fine as root.  This has only started to occur since netatalk was
set to auto-start.
