local network using ethernet and modem

i had a look about it saying n/a ...
(for a ppc 9500 tht's oldworld)

i think this is a NEC something, but there is no kind of utilities to
read, from linux the chipset ? linux is able to see and read video card,
sonnet ata tempo card and usb one, but not the ethernet by the same way
?
