Installing applications

Most apps in linux/unix go in /usr/bin (for app included in a distro)
or /usr/local/bin for apps that you build and install yourself.
IIRC OpenOffice want's it's own special place though.  Look through
the documantation for intallation instructions.  You might have to set
everyones path to include the OO directory.

I just installed YDL 2.3, and I'd like to install OpenOffice. Is there 
a preferred directory to install apps in Linux so all users can access 
it, like /usr/share? Or does it really matter?
