YDL 3 yaboot not loading

I checked that my first partition (/dev/hda1) is hfs. yaboot, yaboot.conf
are in this partition.

>From the Open Firmware prompt when I do -

0> boot hd:1,yaboot

or

0> boot hd:1,\\yaboot

or

0> boot hd:1,\\:yaboot

I get the error "can't open: hd:1,...." message. I tried it with
"yaboot,tbxi" too with the same result.

I tried running ybin (booted from installer CD, went to tty2 command prompt
and ran ybin) to recreate yaboot - without any good.

Now I am not sure what to do.

Any clues anyone?

Open Firmware http://bananajr6000.apple.com/ can only boot off of HFS
partitions, I think.  So you need at least a small HFS partition that
contains your kernel, yaboot.tbxi, and yaboot.conf. then you tell the
open firmware to boot like: 


boot hd:x,\yaboot.tbxi 


where x is the HFS partiton number, and of course the yaboot.conf
file being setup appropriately.
