I tried the following from the installer cd boot prompt -

boot: linux root=/dev/hda3

and it booted from the installed YDL without any problems. And then I did
/usr/sbin/ybin from room prompt and rebooted. And I still get the question
mark. The bootloader is not loading. Any clue?

Thanks in advance.

Try this to rerun ybin

Boot from the YDL 3.0 Install CD 1. Immediately hold the "c" key.
Once you get to boot options, type the following:
cd-linux root=/dev/<linux root partition> [ENTER]

where <linux root partition> may be, for example, hda7 or sda6, but
without the < and >, then:
/usr/sbin/ybin [ENTER]
