file transfer between mac drives

I tried to compile gtk-2, glib-2, pango, gnome, etc. to get the most
bleeding-edge gimp and solfege together.
I was able to compile these things but these programs (gimp and solfege)
needed more stuff and those
things needed more stuff ... You get the idea.  I saw that I would need
dozens of big interconnected packages
to get this off the ground.  I don't think I'm a wimp but I gave up.
