Upgrading KDE

I'm a Mac head new to Linux, and I'm wondering how to update my KDE packa=
ge.=20
Or is it packages? I've recently put KDE on my iMac through Fink and XDar=
win,=20
and I see a newer-looking KDE startup screen and it looks like it's KDE 3=
=2E07  =20
(KDE 3.1 beta)..

I look at my LInux box (G3 tower), and it says in the control center that=
 this=20
is KDE 3.0.1, running on LInux 2.4.19-4a.

How do I get the 3.07 KDE over on this box? I've looked at the package=20
manager, and it' sdaunting. I don't want to mess up too much (after 3=20
re-installs due to my ignorance, this is important to me). Any help is=20
appreciated.
