From Text login to graphical

Thanks Lowell, that gets me closer to where I want to go.

The current problem is that I run it, I select my monitor, I give it a
resolution (1152 x 864 x 75Hz), 16 bits of color, and no acceleration, and it
claims everything went fine.

However, when I type "startx" it fails, telling me there is no screen.  I
checked my XF86Config file, and it has no screen.

Now what do I do?
