I have the same problem with my 2001 TiBook.  It seems, so I've
gathered, that Apple doesn't  hardwire the CD drives to the soundcard so
audio CD's have to be reinterpreted digitally with XMMS.  I still
haven't got it to work, but that is what I've been told.
