I asked if any of the files showed up as bledded system folders, which my
bad toast lite did not have, but my good disks, the ones that work, do:

Well, there's your problem.  Bad burn. I'm no toast expert - so I'd suggest
a careful read of the howto on YDL's web page, which explains what to do.
At least you know where the [initial] problem is ....
